TTTHedge.com is reporting today its abbreviated 2 month Q4 2009 returns. Transitioning from an offset quarterly system to re-align to a calendar-year reporting system this quarter’s report contains two months worth of trading data.
Each trading day, members of the TTTHedge.com trading group track Tom Malone’s daily trades as entered in the TTTHedge.com trading room and the Twitter service. These trades are time marked in the trading room and entered into the trade database. TTTHedge.com uses a 3 portfolio system. The Traders fund is used for hedging and short term trades of 1 to 5 days. The Main fund has a 5 to 30 day holding period and an IRA fund is used for 10 to 45 day or longer trades.
These results do not take account for commission nor do they add in for dividends. Trade numbers are supplied for calculating a personal return model.
Results
For the two months ended 12/31/2009 the Traders fund short term trading account was up 50.83% over the November opening balance. This compares to 7.63% for the SPX over the same time period. TTTHedge.com’s Main fund was up 7.55% and IRA fund up 2.7%. While the Main and IRA fund were positive for the period, a flight to the safety of cash as we near the top of an unprecedented bull run has the funds underperforming the SPX. The outstanding performance of the Traders fund gave a combined asset return of all three funds to a very respectable 9.3% two month return.
Excellent cash management and risk management combined with a shorter holding period became the strategy as the funds came into the closing of the year.
Cumulative Profits
In typical Tom Malone fashion the daily take from the market was positive. The following accumulating profits chart show very few draw-downs during the two month period.
The largest draw-down was -1.5% starting on December 1st. The funds were back to net positive just 5 days later making back all the loss in the draw-down.
For all three funds there was 413 trades executed during the 2 months period with an average gain of $247 per trade.
